..... first night free-time dinner in Yangon was a local
Burmese eating shop.....great simple food..... a brown spicy fish dipping
sauce.... durian ice cream at another shop down the street.... carrying our
'brown-out- flashlights' given to us at our earlier orientation
meeting.....
..... so many wonders of the world in this country..... the
first pagoda to be built with a hair relic of (Gothama) Buddha, the Botataung
Pagoda......
.... No ATM's, no credit cards used, only USD and local
Kyat.....the USD's must be like new, no ink spots, no series CB bills, and if
not.....not accepted.....all known in advance of the tour thanks to
Roads2.Com......
.... Robert and I will always remember our 'only us'
dinner at the Green Elephant Burmese restaurant in Yangon..... simply upscale,
inexpensive and yet local.... first time to have durian pudding for
us.....
.....our Nebraska farmer friend would enjoy the people living and
growing crops on the floating islands of Inle Lake - 900 meters above sea
level......
....Mark and I didn't know how safe Myanmar would be.....our
friends all said 'be careful'.......but it is a very safe place..... many
Burmese men carry wallets behind their back between their shirt and traditional
sarong......
....our tour guide Seo Yee explained that even though
Kipling wrote' the golden mystery' and 'the winking wonder' when referring to
the famous Shwedagon Pagoda, he had never visited Myanmar.....
.....being
retired school teachers, Joan and I will always remember seeing Kuthodaw Pagoda
in Mandalay - 729 marble slabs with Tipitaka text sometimes called the "world's
biggest book".....
....Bagan...... Bagan..... Bagan..... one of the
richest archaeological sites in Asia ..... a must-see for our children
......
....one has not seen SE Asia without experiencing Myannar
..... I will come back again and again..... it has become a very special place
for me......
